After Gym Skincare Guide

Skincare Guide

You must be wondering why you even need skincare after gym. You are sure that you read somewhere that exercising is good for the skin. It helps your body release toxins, thus making the skin healthier and cleaner. This is true, but during a workout session in the gym, sweat will probably sit on your face for an hour or two or perhaps even more, which means that it will leave those toxins and other build up to settle in your pores. This could eventually lead to skin redness, which is a mild and transitory nuisance, but it could also turn into to rashes and breakouts. All of this can be resolved with proper skincare after your gym session. Let us see what that is supposed to look like.

Wet Wipes

This is something you should always keep in your gym bag, so that you can clean your face on the go, especially if you have to run to your apartment and don’t have time to squeeze in a quick shower. Another benefit of wet wipes is that they cool and calm your skin, which can feel really good after heavy lifting. Just make sure you use alcohol-free products, to avoid further irritation. Another neat and inexpensive trick, is to use baby powder (yep, you’ve read it right) on sensitive areas to fight perspiration.

Take Good Care of Your Clothes

Skincare Guide

If this is not an essential part of your after gym skincare routine, than boy you’re in trouble. If they’re not cleaned properly, your workout clothes can irritate your skin and cause odor the next time you put them on. Before you wash them, you should hang them to dry and soak them for about 30 minutes and then wash them on recommended temperature. Keep in mind, though, the better your moisture wicking gym clothes are (in terms of quality) the fewer problems you’ll have with them retaining odors.

Take a Shower

So, this is nothing new, but if you can, try to hop into the shower right after you’re done with exercising. Also, avoid using hot water (we know it feels good, but it is so wrong), since it can strip your skin and hair of their natural oils and dry them out. Use a shower gel with natural oils and sea minerals which is specially formulated for male skin and hair. While you’re there, you can use exfoliating gloves to clean out the pores and avoid bacteria and odor build up. You don’t have to wash your hair every time you exercise, but when you do, use a natural shampoo.

Restore & Rehydrate

Restore & Rehydrate

As soon as you get out of the shower, you must moisturize your skin. However, before you apply the moisturizer, you can use face toner to remove the toxic residues after a long period of sweating, restore your skin’s pH balance, and prevent acne. Moisturizer should be an essential part of your daily skincare routine, especially after workouts. Make sure that you use a natural, alcohol-free moisturizer rich with nourishing ingredients such as argan oil, shea butter, and jojoba oil.

Get a Facial

Facials are not just a “chick thing”. They’re actually very useful for male skin too. So put aside the stereotypes, and take care of your face once a week or once a month. If that is still too much for you, you can try to do it yourself. At-home facial should include exfoliating (with a scrub), steaming (placing your head over a bowl with hot water with a few drops of essential oils, and then putting a towel on your head), and then repeating your usual skincare routine.

Of course, if you want to maintain your skin’s healthy glow, instead of the unhealthy redness, you must take care about what’s inside too. Proper hydration before, during and after a workout is of the utmost importance not only for your skin, but also for your overall health.
